Todd Littleton's Presentation
Thanks for the great time with you last week. I thought I would follow Andy and Kyle's lead and post the outline I had in mind for my part of the panel discussion on "church." These changes maintain and hopefully clarify something of what I hoped to communicate. May we share time again along the way ...
Ecclesiology as a Spiritually Forming Community of Trust in Jesus
Collapsing the Two-Story House
Moving Beyond a Utilitarian Ethic
Re-imagining Liturgy, Images, Metaphors, Icons and Sacred Spaces
Ecclesiology as a Spiritually Forming Community of Trust in Jesus
- Different than programming for activity.
- Different than emphasizing individual purpose.
- Stresses the communal aspect of faith as the story and metaphors in Scripture describe formation on terms of a communal experience.
Collapsing the Two-Story House
- Exposing the myth of hte two-story house - sacred/secular
- Moving from the false dichotomy toward wholism
- Living out of the Abrahamic Covenant - "Bless the world through you."
Moving Beyond a Utilitarian Ethic
- The Commoditization of the Gospel created a disconnect between message and method. No longer mattered "how" so long as you were "right."
- Return to an ethic of love as expressed ion the Great Commission. To borrow from Dallas Willard - Avodiing the "Great Ommission from the Great Commission."
- "Don't be Rude"
Re-imagining Liturgy, Images, Metaphors, Icons and Sacred Spaces
- Connected by Liturgy
- Expressed Poetically
- Move Slowly
